Team Badger has recently written to new Prime Minister Theresa May and new Environment Secretary Andrea Leadsom calling for the badger cull to be halted. The potential roll out to up to nine counties this year will be extremely costly and will also stretch police resources. This is not good news given that the Defra budget is facing resource challenges, the police will have its attention drawn away from crime prevention priorities, and worst of all some of the country’s most highly qualified experts with experience of badgers and bovine tuberculosis believe the policy is failing farmers and that this bovine disease can only be tackled by way of cattle based measures.
